Couples Therapy
In couples therapy, I meet with the couple to help them identify the challenges in their relationship.
Couples therapy sessions last 60-minutes long. During the first session, I ask couples what they are struggling with most, and what they are hoping will change in their relationship with therapy. I provide a supportive environment so that both individuals feel safe to communicate their frustrations in the relationship.
The first few sessions of couples therapy are focused on helping the couple develop a deeper understanding of the challenges that they see in the relationship. I assist each person to communicate their challenges in the relationship, and provide suggestions and healthy communication tools during the session to promote a healthier approach. I am aware that no two relationships are the same, just as no two people are the same, and that it is important to consider each individual’s history and experience.
Once I have helped the couple develop more empathy and compassion for one another, I assist them in understanding the patterns that they have established in their partnership. Couples often report having more effective communication, feeling more emotionally connected, and being more present and thoughtful about how they engage and interact with one another after couples therapy.
